4 Ingredient Traditional Irish Soda Bread with Gluten and Dairy Free Options
The most delicious, simple, easiest bread you will ever bake in your kitchen. Traditional Irish Soda Bread is only 4 ingredients. Flour, Salt, Baking Soda, and Buttermilk. Quick bread at it's finest. Paired with a compound butter, a preserve or drizzled with natural honey...this bread can't be beat.
- 1 pound cake or pastry flour 4.5 cups
- 1 tablespoon baking soda
- 1/2 Teaspoon salt
- 14 ounces buttermilk
Make sure your oven is pre-heated to 375 degrees Fahrenheit prior to adding the buttermilk
Weigh one pound of flour and add it to a fine mesh sifter over a large bowl. Add baking soda and salt. Sift to combine.
Add in buttermilk and with a wooden spoon gently pull the flour mix from the sides of the bowl and combine the dry with the wet. Dough will be very wet and very soft.
On a well-floured surface, turn out the dough and gently knead 6-8 times being careful not to disturb the gas.
Form into a flat round disc.
In a lightly oiled and floured baking dish, place your dough into the center and cut a cross on the top of the dough.
Bake 35-45 minutes or until a skewer inserted in the middle of the dough comes out clean.
